by Bayonne Now

Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that he met this week with Assemblyman Louis D. Greenwald, chair of the NJ General Assembly Budget Committee.

Smith said, 'I sought this meeting with Assemblyman Lou Greenwald to make him aware of Bayonne's needs during this time of economic difficulty. As Mayor, I know that Bayonne depends on a positive relationship with state officials to get the policies and assistance we need to move forward.'

Smith continued, 'Lou Greenwald has had a distinguished record as Budget Chairman and as a sponsor of important legislation. I look forward to continuing to work with him on issues of concern to Bayonne.'

The mayor added, 'Assemblyman Greenwald will be helpful in the coming days as Bayonne seeks partners to assist with the redevelopment of the Peninsula and other important projects.'

Smith said that Greenwald would be returning to Bayonne in the near future.
Greenwald has sponsored legislation to lower auto insurance rates, and a bill to extend eligibility requirements for veterans to receive the Distinguished Service Medal.

Greenwald was the author of legislation creating the Amber Alert system, through which reports of abducted children are broadcast quickly on television and radio. He sponsored a law revising the state's charity care formula to provide greater reimbursement to hospitals. Greenwald also led the effort to establish a nationally designated cancer center in southern New Jersey.
Greenwald is serving his seventh term in the Assembly."

Amber Alert test experiences glitch...

Amber Alert test experiences glitch: Rutland Herald Online:

"MONTPELIER — A test of Vermont's Amber Alert system — a law enforcement program to get notifications out quickly when children go missing — turned up a problem Thursday morning.

Vermont State Police officials say a mass e-mail that was supposed to go a large number of recipients did not work as planned.

Authorities say they were able to correct the problem, and the system was functioning by Thursday afternoon.

Vermont has had only one alert under the national program, this past June when 12-year-old Brooke Bennett of Braintree disappeared. She was later found dead and her uncle, 42-year-old Michael Jacques of Randolph, has been charged with abducting, raping and killing her.

AMBER ALERT: Police seek help in locating Pavilion Township girl, 15, who reportedly was abducted Thursday

AMBER ALERT: Police seek help in locating Pavilion Township girl, 15, who reportedly was abducted Thursday - The Kalamazoo Gazette Online - Michigan Newspaper - MLive.com:

"KALAMAZOO -- The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department is looking for a 15-year-old Pavilion Township resident, Savanna Gay, who they say was reported to have been abducted by force from her home Thursday.

Sheriff's Lt. Jim VanDyken said Savanna called her mother Thursday evening saying she had been taken by force from their home in the 8000 block of East O Avenue.

Savanna told her mother she was calling while her abductor was inside a gas station, but she hung up before her mother was able to obtain any other information, VanDyken said."

He said a female acquaintance of Savanna's "reportedly came to her address and took her by some means of force."

VanDyken said that in addition to Savanna, the sheriff's department is looking for Diane Bridges, 19, from the Battle Creek area, who they said might be with her.

He said Savanna is a white female, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 100 pounds, with green eyes and dyed-blond (formerly brown) hair. She was last known to be wearing a white coat with fur around the collar, light blue sweat pants and slippers.

Bridges is a white female, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds, with short-cut hair of an unknown color.
He said the vehicle they may be riding in and its license number are unknown, but that it possibly could be a dark-colored Chevrolet Lumina or a white Mazda.

If anyone has information about the location of either Savanna or Bridges, call 911, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department or the police in whose jurisdiction they are seen, Van Dyken said.
