Clinton Campaign Unveils 'Hats Off For Hillary'

Clinton Campaign Unveils 'Hats Off For Hillary'

Demonstrating Hillary’s strong commitment to breast cancer awareness, the Clinton campaign today unveiled its ‘Hats off for Hillary’ drive in Kentucky. The drive, which will take place until May 20, will encourage women across the state to donate their Kentucky Derby hats to charity.

"Hats off for Hillary is just another example of the strong commitment Hillary has shown to fighting breast cancer and raising awareness," said former Miss America and Hillary supporter Heather French Henry. "Hillary is the only candidate with a comprehensive plan to eradicate breast cancer in our lifetime. We look forward to working with other Kentuckians to raise even more awareness."

Kentucky women interested in participating in 'Hats off for Hillary' can drop their derby hats at any Clinton Campaign office in the state. All derby hats will be donated to "Hats for Hope," a charity which supports the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides for Breast Cancer" initiative.

Who is Jill Long Thompson... (D) candidate for Governor in Indiana

All About Jill Long ThompsonDuring her many years in public life, Jill Long Thompson has built an impressive record as a fighter for working families and as an advocate for responsive, responsible government. Inspired to politics as a youth, Long Thompson served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana's 4th Congressional District from 1989 to 1995. Long Thompson spent more than five years as U.S. Under Secretary of Agriculture from 1995 to 2001.

In Congress, Long Thompson compiled a pragmatic voting record by opposing all new tax increases while protecting investments in education, Medicare, and Social Security. Long Thompson also served as Vice Chair of the Democratic Leadership Council, a Democratic policy organization.

Long Thompson's first election to Congress in 1989 made national headlines because Indiana's 4th Congressional District was considered a "safe" Republican seat once held by then Vice President Dan Quayle. Long Thompson, then known as Jill Long, easily won re-election in 1990 and 1992 despite being a top Republican target for defeat.

As Under Secretary of Agriculture for rural development, Long Thompson managed 7,000 employees and a $10 billion budget, which funded rural housing, cooperative, water/waste, and business programs. Among her accomplishments as Under Secretary were reforming the single-family loan program, helping create thousands of jobs in economically challenged communities, and improving the efficiency of the Department.

Jill Long Thompson, 54, grew up on the family farm outside of Larwill in Whitley County. She lives with her husband Don Thompson, a commercial airline pilot, in Marshall County on a farm near Argos. Most recently, Long Thompson served as CEO and Senior Fellow at the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy.

Jill Long Thompson was the first in her family to graduate from college. She earned an M.B.A. (1978) and Ph.D (1984) in Business from Indiana University, and a B.S. in Business from Valparaiso University (1974).

After leaving Congress in early 1995 and before becoming Under Secretary of Agriculture, Long Thompson served as a Fellow at the Institute of Politics in the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Prior to her election to Congress, Long Thompson was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Valparaiso University, an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University/Purdue University-Fort Wayne, and a lecturer at Indiana University in Bloomington.

She also served as the Mark E. Johnston Chair of Entrepreneurship at Manchester College and as Adjunct Professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University South Bend.

Hillary Clinton Fact Check: Ambinder: Clinton's "Nuclear Option" More Of A Conventional Weapon?

Ambinder: Clinton's "Nuclear Option" More Of A Conventional Weapon?

Ambinder:

06 May 2008 11:12 am

Wikipedia's history of the phrase "a nuclear option" would
make Sen. Bill Frist proud, but in so far as historical references go, it's
weaker than an aged dog. I more prefer the context of annihilation and
obliteration over procedural gimmickry, but the latter is more apropos for
today's politics. On Friday, Tom Edsall headlined his story about the upcoming
rules and bylaws committee meeting of the Democratic Party, "Clinton Camp Says
It Will Use The Nuclear Option."

THE OPTION Edsall refers to is an
unspecified plan to somehow use the campaign's leverage on the committee to seat
delegates from Florida and Michigan, thereby reducing the pledged delegate gap
with Barack Obama by 55. Edsall's implication, derived, I assume, from his
conversations with Clinton campaign allies, is that the Clinton campaign is
currently debating whether to play this trump card; the "nuclear option" lingo
makes it clear that Edsall believes that the card is improperly played -- that
the process of delegation challenges does not comport with a spirit of fair
play.

IN FAIRNESS TO the Clinton campaign, they've made no secret
about their desire to seat the delegations from Florida and Michigan. And,
absent new, DNC-approved delegate selection contests in those states, the RBC
and then the credentials committee are the "legal" and appropriate forums to
hear those challenges under DNC rules. RBC meetings are open and above-board;
the challenges set to be argued will be argued. The Obama campaign does not
believe that a majority of the RBC's members are Clinton supporters; the Clinton
campaign is surely counting votes, but they're also not certain of the outcome.
It seems indecent to suggest that RBC members, many of whom have the equivalent
of tenure on the committee and are sticklers for DNC rules, would so eagerly and
quickly jettison sound judgment in favor of politics. Some will, some won't. It
further seems unfair to lump the cases of Florida and Michigan together,
especially when it comes to what's fair and what's foul. In Florida, Clinton and
Obama both appeared on the ballot; in Michigan, Obama's name (by his own choice,
yes) did not.

North Carolina Election Day is Here! 5/6/08

Voters are turning out all over North Carolina to cast their ballots for Hillary. Here is all the information you need to vote for Hillary...

What are the polling hours on Election Day?

Polls will be open on May 6, 2008, from 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

How can I find my voting location?

Click here to find your voting location.

If you need a ride to the polls, please call the following number: 877-447-2408.

When is the Voter Registration Deadline?

Voter registration ended on April 11, 2008.

What if I am an unaffiliated voter?

Voters who are not affiliated with a party (i.e., independents) can vote in the Democratic primary. But voters who are members of another party (e.g., Republicans) cannot.

What kind of ID do I need to bring to the polling place?

Most voters do not need to show ID to vote. But North Carolina requires voters to present ID if they (i) registered by mail on or after Jan. 1, 2003, and (ii) have not voted in person since they registered.

Can I get an absentee ballot?

No. The deadline was April 29. But, if it will be physically difficult for the voter to vote at the polling place, he or she may drive to the polling place and cast a vote from the vehicle. Alternatively, voters who need extra help can obtain assistance just by asking the chief judge at their polling place. If a voter needs assistance, he/she may bring a family member to help him/her.

What are the provisional ballot rules?

Voters may cast provisional ballots if they believe that they are registered to vote but their name does not appear on the county’s official list of registered voters. If a voter votes provisionally because he/she is required to show ID, but lacks ID, he/she may present it at the county board of elections office until May 13 at 11 am. Voters can learn whether their provisional ballot was counted -- click here.

To report any voting problems, please call our legal hotline: 888-472-9465

Audio: Hillary Did Not Commit To Lifting Teamsters Consent Decree

Audio: Hillary Did Not Commit To Lifting Teamsters Consent Decree

Send to a Friend »

This morning's Wall Street Journal revealed that Sen. Obama unequivocally supports lifting the teamsters federal consent decree:

Sen. Barack Obama won the endorsement of the Teamsters earlier this year
after privately telling the union he supported ending the strict federal
oversight imposed to root out corruption, according to officials from the union
and the Obama campaign.

…Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed the candidate's position in a
statement to The Wall Street Journal, saying that Sen. Obama believes that the
board "has run its course," because "organized crime influence in the union has
drastically declined." Mr. Vietor said Sen. Obama took that position last
year.

This morning on Good Morning America, Sen. Obama contradicted his campaign and said he had not made a commitment.

Today, the Politico published audio of Hillary speaking to the Teamsters. Hillary says that she'd be open to "looking at" the status of the consent decree but made no commitments.

This is consistent with what the Hillary campaign and the Teamsters said publicly before this audio was released. Phil Singer told the Wall Street Journal: "Sen. Clinton is making no promises about lifting the consent decree." The Teamsters described Hillary's position as "wishy-washy."

Press Release: Indy 500 Driver Sarah Fisher Endorses Hillary for President

Press Release

5/5/2008

Indy 500 Driver Sarah Fisher Endorses Hillary for President

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Hoosiers for Hillary today announced the endorsement of groundbreaking IndyCar Series driver and team owner Sarah Fisher.

"We need a president who will stand up for us and be a fighter for Hoosiers and all Americans," said Fisher, who will qualify for her seventh Indianapolis 500 this month. "Hillary will be a president who steers our country in the right direction and puts our economy back on track. Something Hillary and I have in common is our commitment to achieving our goals, leaving roadblocks behind and refusing to be knocked down. Hillary is a doer and a fighter who keeps getting out there, going for the checkered flag."

"I’m honored to have Sarah’s support. Not only has she broken down barriers in her sport, but she continues to be a role model for young people aspiring to realize their dreams," Clinton said. “Trailblazers like Sarah prove that with hard work and determination, anything is possible in our country."

Fisher, 27, of Indianapolis, has competed in six Indianapolis 500s. She is the first woman to earn a pole position at an IndyCar Series event. Fisher is also the youngest woman ever to compete in the Indianapolis 500 at age 19 and the fastest female to qualify for the world’s greatest race, with a four-lap average of 229.439 mph in 2003. She is the first female owner/driver of an IndyCar Series team and will compete in the 92nd Indianapolis 500 on May 25.

Dear Barack Obama and Joe Andrews...We have only just begun!

Ok, so what Joe Andrews change his platform...isn't that what Obama does anyway when the heat gets turned up on him, turn around what what he initially said...so Joe Andrews for you to call for Hillary to end her bid to be the next President of the United States... are you kidding me... Joe Andrews, are you a baseball fan, if so what if the Red Sox would have quit when they down to the Yankees 0-3 and had 2 outs in the 9th inning...ahhh you guess it...they wouldn't be World Series Champions, would they? old saying..."it aint over til it is over"

Here is the letter written by some other DNC members to other members dated 5/2/08...

May 2, 2008

Dear Fellow Democratic Party Member:

Democratic National Committee members work tirelessly to elect Democrats locally, and they serve as strong advocates for finding solutions to our nation's most pressing problems. As former DNC Chairs, we are proud to be leaders in a Party that seeks to alleviate the burden of limited access to health care, fix broken systems of public education, improve working conditions for middle-class men and women, and ensure America's safety and security, at home and abroad.

Those of us who support Hillary Clinton for president do so with the knowledge that she, just like us, has dedicated her life to improving the standard of living for others, and she has worked to make our Party the strong force that it is today. Her values are our Party's values. Her record of fiscal prudence is matched by her commitment to social responsibility. Her accomplishments in the area of strengthening America's security are a matter of public record.

Hillary has run one of the most formidable campaigns in the history of our Party. Her wins this primary season are significant - Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas. Her base of support includes women, Hispanics, seniors, Catholics, middle and low income Americans, and rural, suburban and urban voters. That's a formidable coalition tailor-made for victory in a November general election.

In fact, if the election were held today, Hillary would beat Senator McCain, but Senator Obama would lose to the presumptive GOP nominee. According to the most recent polls available, Hillary would beat McCain by a margin of 279 to 259 Electoral Votes. But McCain would beat Obama by a margin of 291 to 247 Electoral Votes.

In a hypothetical general election matchup with McCain, Clinton is winning handily (50%-41%) while Obama is statistically tied with McCain (46%-44%), according to the AP-Ipsos poll released Monday. In the days following the Pennsylvania primary, Gallup Poll Daily tracking showed Hillary pulling even with Senator Obama. As of Thursday, Hillary was ahead 49%-45%.

Hillary can win our Party's nomination. She is neck and neck with her opponent in Indiana and North Carolina. Both states have sizeable voting blocs that resemble constituencies who supported Hillary by large margins in Pennsylvania, Ohio and other contests.

Years of job loss and the recent economic slowdown mean that most Indiana and North Carolina voters are more concerned about the economy than anything else. Hillary has consistently garnered the majority of support from voters who say the economy is the most important issue facing our country.

Hillary's campaign is currently operating at full capacity in Guam, Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota.

As in states that have already voted, election official are expecting record turnouts. Pennsylvania registered more than 215,000 new voters ahead of its April 22 primary. More than 200,000 new voters have registered in Indiana since the start of the year. And in counties across North Carolina, registration numbers are double - or triple - what they were in 2004.

More than 30 million Americans have already cast a ballot in our Party's nomination contest and millions more will go to the polls between now and June 3. The record numbers of Americans who are registering and coming out to vote reflect the excitement about our candidates and the strength that our nominee will have behind him or her in the fall. The primary process will make our nominee stronger and better prepared to take on John McCain. Our Party only gains from having more voters - including more new voters - all across our country.

We encourage you to continue to fully consider Hillary Clinton and the fact that she is qualified and accomplished. Too much is at stake for us not to consider deeply the choice we must make for our Party and our country.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Curtis

The New York Times Endorse Hillary Clinton for president

The New York Times Endorse Hillary for President.

The New York Times said...

We know that she is capable of both uniting and leading. We saw her going town by town through New York in 2000, including places where Clinton-bashing was a popular sport. She won over skeptical voters and then delivered on her promises and handily won re-election in 2006.

Mrs. Clinton must now do the same job with a broad range of America’s voters. She will have to let Americans see her power to listen and lead, but she won’t be able to do it town by town.

When we endorsed Mrs. Clinton in 2006, we were certain she would continue to be a great senator, but since her higher ambitions were evident, we wondered if she could present herself as a leader to the nation.

The Las Vegas Sun Endorses Hillary Clinton for President

The Las Vegas Sun Endorses Hillary Clinton for President

Here is what they said.

The top three Democratic candidates -- Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards -- have vigorously vied for votes here. Edwards is still in the race, but this really is a two-person contest between Clinton and Obama, because Edwards’ campaign hasn’t caught on nationally.

Obama has been in the Senate for just three years, so the question is whether he is the most experienced Democratic candidate to immediately assume the presidency on Jan. 20, 2009. Although Obama is likable, so was the inexperienced George W. Bush before he became president -- and we know where that got us.

Fact Check: Hillary and the Windfall Profits Tax

Did you vote for your candidate on my poll...send your friends here also!!!

Today 5/4/08, on Meet the Press, Sen. Obama claimed Hillary was using the same windfall profits tax to pay for two proposals:

Now, Senator Clinton says that she's going to use the windfall profits tax to
fill it. First of all, she's already said she's going to use that for something
else, as I have, and that is to invest in clean energy and, and-- other
important measures. So, that money she's already spending twice.

This is false and misleading.{new kind of politics...huh}

To pay for the gas tax holiday, Hillary is calling for a windfall tax on the oil companies' 2008 profits. It's an immediate proposal. Hillary has never proposed a tax on 2008 profits previously.

Hillary would continue the windfall tax on 2009 profits and beyond, and that revenue would go to her strategic energy fund and for renewable energy.

Radmussen poll reports Barack loses 8 point lead over Hillary

Did you vote for your candidate on my poll...send your friends here also!!!

The Radmussen poll today reports that Hillary Clinton has erased the 8 point lead that Barack had early in the week... the poll suggest that Rev. Jeremiah Wright has a lot to do with Barack losing ground.

I say that it has a lot to do with Hillary and Bill Clinton hitting the streets hard and Barack Obama, thinking he has this in the bag and taking a break and not fighting as hard as he was...sort of reminds me of the Red Sox when they were down 0-3 to the Yankees with 2 outs and came back to win 4 straight and go on to win their first World Series Championship in ages...What if the Red Sox said that no one has ever came back from 0-3...what if?

If you are still unsure...I think you should check out the both candidates sites

Hillary Clinton's Site
Barack Obama's Site

We will see how this shakes out on Tuesday 5/6/08

Make sure you go out to vote... get there early.

In Indiana you can still vote early until 12pm.

Some people say that they should end this race as it is helping the Republicans remain in the White House...I say I would never want to see it end early...no matter how long it is drawn out, you never quit until it is over...the old saying..."quitters never win and winners never quit" that is so true for this presidential race this year.

Hillary and Barack, both have the passion to get in the White House...I say both keep fighting until the end... cause I would never be able to look at them if either one of them quit before it is settled...plus there are still 8 states with voters left to vote, that want to vote for their candidate.

How do you feel? I know it seems like this election has been going on forever, so how would you feel if you are not allowed to vote, when your candidate still has a chance?
