Obama’s Helpful Hand in Blago-Rezko ‘Pay-to-Play’ Scheme

Obama’s Helpful Hand in Blago-Rezko ‘Pay-to-Play’ Scheme » Propeller:

The president-elect sponsored a measure in the Illinois senate that made Rezko's kickback plot a lot easier to carry out.

Against the backdrop of Chicago’s Wacker Drive, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren stood and analyzed Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s most recent “pay-to-play” scheme, the auctioning of President-elect Barack Obama’s seat in the U.S. Senate.

Absent from the analysis of Governor Blagojevich’s role as auctioneer was the governor’s involvement in an earlier scandal. That earlier story went generally untouched by the media — outside of Chicago — because it had a direct bearing on the character of THEN-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AND MEDIA DARLING BARACK OBAMA.

Bridge Collapse at Botanical Garden Kills 1

Bridge Collapse at Botanical Garden Kills 1:

ATLANTA (Dec. 19) - A soaring walkway being built to give visitors breathtaking views of the Atlanta Botanical Garden turned into a disaster zone when it suddenly collapsed, sending workers plummeting dozens of feet to the forest below. One worker was killed Friday morning and at least 18 others injured, some critically.

Contractors were pouring concrete on the 'canopy walk,' which climbed as high as 40 feet, when it gave way. Witnesses described a frenzied scene of the pathway shedding dozens of workers as it tumbled to the ground."

Media Matters destroying the credibility of Jerome Corsi, again!

Media Matters destroying the credibility of Jerome Corsi, again!

Since 2004, Media Matters for America has kept a close eye on the media. When a Bill O'Reilly or a Chris Matthews attacks progressive leaders or ideals, Media Matters is there to fight back, every day, in real time.

Join the Media Matters Action Team today and keep the media honest.

When the Clintons reached the White House in 1993, they hadn't even unpacked their boxes before the right-wing noise machine started hyping phony scandals and inventing gossip. Too many in the media played a key role in spreading these smears, forgetting their responsibility as journalists and repeating fiction as fact.

Now it's happening again. The same far-right fanatics and those in the media who disseminate their attacks far and wide are trying to derail the new Democratic administration before it's even gotten off the ground. They spread gossip and suggest scandal where there is none, all in the interest of generating controversy instead of communicating the facts.

This time we have a way to fight back.

Join the Media Matters Action Team today and keep the media honest.

These people get results.

When Jerome Corsi -- who wrote the Swift Boat attack book about John Kerry in 2004 -- published another one about Barack Obama, Media Matters absolutely destroyed his credibility with a detailed takedown of his smears and falsehoods. They also pointed out Corsi's history of bigoted and hate-filled comments directed at other progressive leaders like Bill and Hillary, John Kerry, and Ted Kennedy. Media Matters has done the same with books attacking Hillary, standing up to innuendo and distortions and hitting back with the facts.

If we want the new administration to be able to follow through on the promise of change, we need to fight the right-wing noise machine and keep the media honest. We've seen how important that battle is, and Media Matters is out there fighting it every day. Let's give 'em a hand.

Join the Media Matters Action Team today and keep the media honest.

Sincerely,

James Carville

Obama picks global warming expert as science adviser

Obama picks global warming expert as science adviser - Yahoo! News:

President-elect Barack Obama's choice of John P. Holdren as his science adviser sends a strong signal that Obama sees global warming as an urgent problem and wants bold suggestions for action.

The Harvard University environmental policy professor has argued that the world already is experiencing dangerous climate change as a result of fossil fuel combustion. He's said there's still time to avert catastrophe, but only with a strong and rapid global effort.

At a recent talk in Washington , Holdren boiled it down to this...

Without energy there is no economy. Without climate there is no environment. Without economy and environment there's no material well-being, there's no civil society, there's no personal or national or international security. And the problem is that the way we've been getting the energy our economies need is wrecking the climate that our environment needs. That is the essence of the problem.

Biden's Puppy: A Post-Election Gift From Jill (PHOTOS)

Biden's Puppy: A Post-Election Gift From Jill (PHOTOS):

It seems President-elect Barack Obama's children were not the only ones promised a dog after the presidential election. Biden's wife, Jill, made the same assurance to her husband if he and Obama, his running mate, won the election.

Jill Biden had taped pictures of different dogs on the back of the seat in front of Biden on his campaign plane to inspire the candidate as he crisscrossed the country in the final sprint to election day, according to published reports during the campaign.

Saturday, Biden selected a three-month-old male German shepherd from one of Brown's litters, a puppy that will turn out to be a 'big boy,' Brown said with a chuckle.
'He is the nicest person on this earth,' Brown said about her meeting with Biden, the Democratic senator from Delaware, now getting ready to take over the office of vice president.

....Biden's granddaughters will name the puppy, Brown said the vice president-elect told her.

Rahm Emanuel Gave Blagojevich List Of 'Acceptable' Senate Candidates...

Rahm Emanuel Gave Blagojevich List Of 'Acceptable' Senate Candidates: Report:

President-elect Barack Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel had direct conversations with Gov. Rod Blagojevich about Obama's replacement in the US Senate, FOX News Chicago reports.

Citing 'a source familiar with the investigation,' Fox says that Emanuel had 'multiple conversations' with Blagojevich and his chief of staff John Harris, who was also arrested Tuesday on federal corruption charges, about the seat and that they we're 'likely recorded and in FBI possession.'

Fox's source said that Emanuel gave the governor's office a list of 'candidates that would be acceptable to President-elect Barack Obama' but no 'quid pro quo' or 'dealmaking' is suspected.

Meanwhile, an angry Emanuel says he won't go to work because of the media stakeout. He told an ABC News cameraman that has received death threats:

Man Throws Shoes At Bush In Iraq During Press Conference (video)

Man Throws Shoes At Bush In Iraq During Press Conference:
"***UPDATE*** 1:27PM

McClatchy reports that the man who hurled his shoes at Bush during his press conference was an Iraqi journalist:
An Iraqi television journalist hurled two shoes at President Bush on Sunday during a joint news conference Bush was holding with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki to mark the signing of a U.S.-Iraq security agreement.

Bush had just finished his prepared remarks in which he said the security agreement was made possible by the U.S. surge of troops earlier this year, whhen the journalist, Muthathar al Zaidi pulled his shoes off and hurled them at the president. 'This is a goodbye kiss, you dog,' Zaidi shouted.
Bush dodged the shoes and was not struck. Bodyguards quickly wrestled Zaidi to the floor and hauled him, kicking and screaming, from the room. Two other Iraqi journalists were briefly detained after one of them called Zaidi's actions 'courageous.'"
